The Pacific Catastrophe Risk Assessment and Financing Initiative (PCRAFI) was a joint initiative of SOPAC/SPC, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, with the financial support of the Government of Japan, the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) and the ACP–EU Natural Disaster Risk Reduction Programme, and technical support from AIR Worldwide, New Zealand GNS Science, Geoscience Australia, the Pacific Disaster Center, OpenGeo and GFDRR Labs.
PCRAFI aimed to provide the Pacific Island Countries with disaster risk modelling and assessment tools, and to open a dialogue on integrated financial solutions for reducing their financial vulnerability to natural disasters and to climate change. The Pacific Disaster Risk Assessment project provided 15 countries with tools to help them understand, model and assess their exposure to natural hazards.
What was published here
The node held two kinds of data. The first was the modelled output of PCRAFI itself: earthquake ground-shaking and tropical cyclone wind hazard maps at several return periods, average annual loss surfaces by district, and the building, crop and infrastructure exposure databases those loss figures were computed against. The second was the base data underneath — district and enumeration-area boundaries, roads, schools, land cover for Upolu, surface soil classification, and OpenStreetMap extracts for Samoa.
The catalogue lists all 42 records with the descriptions the site itself carried. The data files are not here: the map viewer and the download endpoints were part of the application, and the application is gone.
